✅ Automated parking is very efficient
✅ Provides excellent value for money
⛔ Not particularly fast
⛔ Not the most powerful EV

Overview of the All-New 2024 Xpeng MONA M03

Xpeng MONA M03 is a truly smart electric hatchback, launched in three trims. With all the buzz around it, we were really excited to review its Long Range Edition offered with a 620 km range. The car looks from outer space at a glance, and it is an engineering marvel in all aspects, whether you take its low-drag aerodynamics or the long list of smart features.

We’ll shed light on each and every aspect of this car as we go ahead in this review. However, MONA M03 is an excellent EV in its class and price range. We don’t think any other car comes quite close to it in terms of smart driving features and driving range.

Trims and Pricing

515 long battery life: $16,990

620 ultra-long battery life: $18,028

580 ultra-long battery life Max: $22,090

Electric Motors and Acceleration

While the Mona M03’s performance figures may not be groundbreaking compared to some other electric vehicles on the market, they strike a good balance between power and efficiency, making it suitable for both daily commuting and spirited driving.

The entry-level 515 long battery life trim provides a solid foundation with 188 hp and 225 Nm torque, delivering a respectable but not so fast 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.8 seconds. The 620 ultra-long battery life and 580 ultra-long battery life Max trims step up the power output to 218 hp and 250 Nm torque, resulting in slightly quicker acceleration times of 7.4 seconds.

Range, Charging Times, and Battery Size

Xpeng has equipped the Mona M03 with a range of battery options to suit various driving needs. The 515 long battery life trim features a 51.8 kWh battery pack, offering a range of 515 km. The 620 ultra-long battery life and 580 ultra-long battery life Max trims both utilize a larger 62.2 kWh battery pack, delivering an extended range of 620 km and 580 km, respectively.

The Mona M03’s energy consumption of 11.5 kWh per 100 km ensures efficient use of battery power. Additionally, the vehicle supports rapid charging, allowing for an additional 200 kilometers of range to be added in just 15 minutes. At a DC fast charger, it takes less than 26 minutes to recharge the batteries from 30% to 80%.

Drive and Handling

Mona M03’s driving and handling dynamics are impressive, offering a balance of agility and stability. We found that the car remains composed and stable during lane changes, overtaking, and cornering maneuvers.

The car’s golden steering ratio of 14.2 and a minimum turning radius of 5.3 meters make it exceptionally easy to turn and U-turn, even in tight spaces. The Mona M03’s vehicle roll gradient of 3.5°/g when changing lanes and a steady-state lateral acceleration of >0.9g further contribute to its agile handling characteristics.

Comfort, Cargo, and Interior Cabin

While MONA M03 might not be as spacious as an SUV, the interior offers a comfortable, functional, and stylish environment that caters to the needs of both drivers and passengers. The Mona M03 boasts a standard electric liftgate and a generous 621L trunk volume. The rear seat of the Mona M03 can be easily converted into a spacious mode with a one-touch switch.

The panoramic area of 1.22 m2 provides a sense of spaciousness, while the Low-E laminated glass helps to insulate the cabin from heat and glare in summer. MONA M03 also offers 4 AC modes, ensuring optimal comfort in all weather conditions.

Exterior and Appearance

The Xpeng MONA M03 is as visually appealing as it is functional. With a drag coefficient of Cd0.194, it boasts one of the lowest drag figures among electric hatchbacks. This translates to improved range and efficiency.

Beneath the sleek exterior lies a solid foundation. The M03’s wide body posture and low center of mass provide a stable and sporty driving experience. Hidden door handles and 19-inch sports wheels add to the vehicle’s sporty appeal.

Smart Features

The Xpeng M03 is not just a vehicle; it’s a mobile technological hub. Packed with an array of smart features, it offers a futuristic driving experience.

The M03’s full-scenario XNGP ADAS is a suite of features designed to enhance safety and reduce driver stress. The lane-level 3D navigation ensures precise guidance even in complex road conditions, while features like lane-keeping control (LCC) and adaptive cruise control (ACC) help maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and stay in your lane.

Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, M03’s advanced sensor suite includes 2 millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 7 cameras, enabling it to accurately perceive its surroundings. Thanks to this, the M03 can automatically parallel park or perpendicular park, even in tight spaces. Also, it is capable of level 2.5+ self-driving.

Safety

The MONA M03 boasts an impressive braking distance of 35.63 meters from 0 to 100 km/h, which is among the shortest in its class. This is complemented by the BOSCH IPB intelligent integrated braking system and a CST comfortable braking function, which minimizes vehicle nod during braking, thereby reducing the risk of motion sickness for passengers.

The vehicle’s body structure utilizes a high-strength cage-type design, with 73% of the body-in-white made from high-strength steel and aluminum alloy. This robust construction allows the roof to withstand pressures up to 5.25 times the car’s weight, significantly enhancing crash safety.

The MONA M03 incorporates 12 active safety features, all standard across trims. These include:

 • Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
 • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)
 • Emergency Lane Departure Assist (ELK)
 • Blind Spot Monitoring (BSD)
 • Lane Change Warning (LCA)
 • Door Opening Warning (DOW)

 • Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)
 • Intelligent High Beam (IHB)
 • Driver Status Monitoring (DMS)
 • Rear Collision Warning (RCW)
 • Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)

Final Verdict: 2024 Xpeng MONA M03

The MONA M03 is packed with cutting-edge smart features. With its base trim starting at $16,990, the MONA M03 offers exceptional value, particularly in its 620 Ultra-Long Battery Life variant, which boasts an impressive range of 620 km.

Inside, the cabin is comfortable and spacious for a hatchback, featuring a generous trunk capacity of 621L, although it may feel somewhat cramped for taller passengers.

China’s electric vehicle revolution is in full swing, and range anxiety is a thing of the past. Today, Chinese automakers are producing some of the best electric cars.

We’ve curated a list of the top 7 Chinese electric cars with the longest ranges in 2024, delving into their specifications, charging capabilities, and standout features. From bustling cityscapes to open highways, these top-tier Chinese electric cars offer unparalleled range and performance.

So, let’s explore the future of driving together!

1. NIO ET7 – 649 miles

On top of our list is the upcoming NIO ET7. With a 150 kWh battery pack, it can go as far as 1,044 km (649 miles) on a single charge. Right now, NIO ET7 has the largest capacity battery in a mass-produced Chinese passenger vehicle.

ET7’s battery has an industry-leading energy density of 360 Wh/kg at the cell level. It weighs 575 kg, which is only 20 kg more than its 100 kWh pack. Nio’s innovative battery swap system also makes it easy to upgrade from the standard 73.5 kWh pack to the 150 kWh pack.

Despite the ET7’s larger battery, it has excellent efficiency. This is thanks to the ET7’s sleek aerodynamic design with a drag coefficient of just 0.208.

NIO ET7

2. IM Motor L6 – 620 miles

The IM Motor L6 is an exciting entry into the electric vehicle (EV) market. It highlights a significant leap in battery performance with its new 130 kWh semi-solid-state battery. L6 can go up to 1,000 km (620 miles) on a single charge with its long-range battery.

The 800V battery architecture of L6 also allows for ultra-fast charging. In just 12 minutes, you can add 400 km (249 miles) of range. As its former 100 kWh edition enjoyed a range of 780 km (485 miles), it would still have been on our list of long-range Chinese EVs.

The IM L6 is packed with Nvidia Orin X processor and Qualcomm 8295 chip. It features DZT dynamic tracking technology that uses a 360° camera to identify potential hazards. Plus, it comes with a multi-angle Carlog, which allows you to record in-car vlogs using built-in cameras.

3. NIO ES6 – 577 miles

Next up on our list is the NIO ES6. Another impressive electric SUV from the NIO brand with a long range. With its latest 150kWh battery pack, the ES6 can go up to 929 km (577 miles) on a single charge. Its battery specs are similar to those of the ET7 sedan.

Since the ES6 is an SUV, it comes in a rather boxy shape. Some of the efficiency of its battery pack is lost due to the aerodynamics of the exterior. On the other hand, its dual motors produce a combined 483hp, allowing it to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 4.5 seconds.

As a Nio owner, you’ll have access to over 1,000 Nio charging stations and 3,000 battery swap stations across China. The battery swap stations allow you to exchange your depleted battery for a fully charged one in just a few minutes, minimizing downtime.

NIO ES6

4. ZEEKR 009 – 511 miles

The ZEEKR 009 is making waves in the electric vehicle (EV) market as a luxury multi-purpose vehicle (MPV). With its striking design and impressive long range, it stands out as a serious contender against established models.

The highlight is undoubtedly the 140 kWh CATL Qilin battery pack available in the ME Edition. The advanced battery technology not only enhances its efficiency but also provides a remarkable range of 822 km (511 miles) on a single charge.

The Qilin battery used in ZEEKR 009 is notable for its innovative cell-to-pack design. It allows for a 13% increase in power density compared to similar-sized batteries, such as Tesla’s 4680 cells. This means you get more energy storage without significantly increasing size or weight.

Zeekr 009 Static Appearance Design

5. HiPhi Y – 503 miles

Other brands featured on this list are pretty famous, but you might not have heard about this one called HiPhi. HiPhi is seriously leading the charge in producing long-range electric cars in China with its models like HiPhi Y and HiPhi Z.

This particular model of HiPhi Z boasts an industry-leading 115 kWh battery pack. The HiPhi Y’s battery uses an advanced ternary lithium battery pack. With this, you can expect an incredible driving range of up to 810 km (503 miles) on a single charge.

HiPhi Y appearance 4

6. ZEEKR 001 – 466 miles

The ZEEKR 001 is an intriguing entry into the electric vehicle market. It offers two battery pack options: a 95 kWh and a 100 kWh variant. But the 100 kWh battery is particularly impressive with a range of up to 750 km (466 miles) under the Chinese testing cycle (CLTC).

The performance of the 001 is equally noteworthy; the dual-motor all-wheel drive version delivers an exhilarating 789 hp and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. This makes it not only a practical vehicle but also one that can satisfy your need for speed.

ZEEKR 001 is also one of the fastest-charging EVs on the market today. The Zeekr 001 charged from 10% to 80% in 11 minutes, gaining a 473 km (294 miles) range using a 600 kW charger. It achieved a peak charging power of 546 kW and added 264 km (164 miles) in 5 minutes.

Zeekr 001 front part styling

7. XPeng P7 – 441 miles

The XPeng P7 offers a blend of performance, technology, and range. P7 comes in several variants, but we are most interested in its RWD Super Long Range model. It boasts an 86.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack with a usable battery capacity of 82.7 kWh.

XPeng’s advanced thermal management system ensures that the battery operates optimally across a wide range of temperatures, from -30°C to 55°C. This is the reason why P7 is capable of maintaining its performance in various climates.

The vehicle is built on XPeng’s SEPA platform, which enhances its structural integrity and driving dynamics. The low center of gravity, achieved through the flat battery design, contributes to better handling and stability on the road.

Multipurpose Vehicles (MPVs): A Modern Solution for Family Travel

MPVs, also known as minivans, have revolutionized family travel since their introduction in the 1980s. Designed to replace the traditional wagons used by American and British families, MPVs offer the perfect blend of passenger comfort and utility.

Unlike full-sized vans, MPVs are built on passenger car platforms, making them more focused on accommodating families and ensuring a smooth travel experience.

If you have a big family and are planning your next adventure, choosing the right MPV is crucial. This guide will help you navigate the essential factors to consider when selecting the best multipurpose vehicle for your family.

1. Power and Engine Performance

Why Engine Performance Matters

The engine is the heart of any vehicle, and this holds especially true for MPVs. Built to carry 8 to 9 passengers, MPVs often traverse long routes and challenging terrains. It’s essential to select a vehicle with adequate power to ensure safe and hassle-free journeys.

Mileage Considerations

Fuel efficiency is another critical factor. Given that MPVs are designed for family travel, they must offer decent mileage to cover long distances without frequent refueling stops. For instance, the Denza D9 DM-i, a hybrid MPV, provides an impressive range of 1050 km on a full charge, combining cost savings on fuel with top-tier efficiency.

2. Safety and Accessibility

Prioritizing Safety

Safety is paramount when traveling with family. MPVs should be equipped with comprehensive safety features to protect all passengers. Look for vehicles with multiple airbags, including side, front, and curtain airbags, to provide maximum protection in the event of a crash.

ZEEKR 009 is an MPV that has passed safety inspection. In a previous official test, after ZEEKR 009 was hit by an overturned mixer truck, all indicators were still relatively normal, the vehicle was able to drive normally, and the three-electric safety was all normal.

ZEEKR 009 TEST
ZEEKR 009 TEST

Ensuring Accessibility

Accessibility is also a key consideration. Families with young children or elderly members need vehicles with features like child locks and easy-to-access seating arrangements. Captain seats, which offer a center aisle for easy access to the rear rows, are particularly useful.

Additionally, rearview cameras are indispensable for parking and navigating tight spots, giving drivers a clear view of what’s behind the vehicle.

3. Comfort and Features

Creating a Comfortable Environment

For long family trips, comfort is crucial. MPVs are known for their spacious interiors, but additional features can enhance the travel experience. Climate control systems and reclining seats provide a relaxing environment.

Essential Modern Conveniences

Charging ports are vital for keeping devices powered during long journeys. Sunroofs offer an enjoyable overhead view and can provide relief from the sun’s heat. Advanced infotainment systems with GPS and multimedia support can entertain passengers and assist with navigation in remote areas.

The GAC Trumpchi M8 is an excellent example of an MPV packed with comfort features, boasting a 12.3-inch instrument panel for essential car information and a 14.6-inch screen for multimedia control.

4. Car Dimensions and Storage

Balancing Size and Storage Needs

Choosing an MPV involves balancing the vehicle’s size with your storage requirements. Larger models, like the Xpeng X9, offer ample space and storage for family trips but may be less maneuverable. Smaller MPVs, such as the GAC GM8, provide better handling and driving experience but might have limited storage capacity. Assess your needs and select an MPV that offers the right combination of space and maneuverability for your family’s adventures.

Conclusion

Selecting the perfect MPV for your family involves considering several factors, from engine performance and safety features to comfort, accessibility, and storage. By carefully evaluating these aspects, you can find an MPV that ensures a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable journey for your entire family.

Top 10 sales of electric cars in China in April 2024 https://guangcaiauto.com/top-10-sales-of-electric-cars-in-china-in-april-2024/ Mon, 06 May 2024 10:24:32 +0000 https://guangcaiauto.com/?p=13750 This article introduces the brand sales ranking of electric vehicles in China in 2024. Let's take a look at who are the top 20.

Time flies, April 2024 has passed. Let us review the sales performance of various Chinese automobile manufacturers in April.

China's auto brand rankings in April

The above are the top 21 brands in China in terms of sales in April. Please see below for more detailed data.

BYD

BYD‘s passenger car sales in April reached 313,245 units, with BYD Auto (Dynasty Network + Ocean Network) accounting for 297,864 units, Denza car sales totaling 11,122 units, Yangwang car sales reaching 952 units, and Fangchengbao car sales amounting to 2,110 units.

BYD 2024 April sale

During BYD’s 2023 annual financial report communication meeting, Wang Chuanfu mentioned that BYD’s sales target for 2024 is to grow by over 20% compared to 2023, reaching 3.6 million units. Currently, BYD’s total sales for 2024 have already exceeded 930,000 units. Even if we calculate sales at 300,000 units per month for the remaining months, achieving the 3.6 million sales target doesn’t seem too difficult – as long as they can sell over 30,000 more vehicles each month for the next 8 months. Whether or not this scenario will unfold depends on BYD’s actions moving forward.

Geely

Geely Auto sold a total of 51,428 new energy vehicles in April. Among them, Lynk & Co delivered 16,089 units, Geely Galaxy delivered 12,725 units, and Geometry delivered 12,630 units.

Geely 2024 April sale

Geely, adhering to its “multi-brand strategy,” has truly achieved a diversified approach in the field of new energy vehicles. With the high-end pure electric brand ZEEKR, and the more mainstream Geely Galaxy and Geely Geometry, Geely is effectively implementing a multi-faceted approach. Additionally, Lynk & Co has made strides in the new energy transition with its EM-P models, with pre-sale orders for the Lynk & Co 07 EM-P surpassing 10,000 units. With the introduction of more Geely-affiliated products into the market, Geely’s presence in the new energy market is likely to continue to grow.

Chery

In April, Chery Group sold 32,995 new energy vehicles, with the iCAR brand accounting for 7,524 units of that total.

Chery 2024 April sale

Entering 2024, Chery Automobile has clearly begun to make strides in the field of new energy vehicles, with products in various power forms including hybrid and pure electric being strategically positioned. Their iCAR brand, targeting trendy young consumers, has seen promising performance, with their first model, the iCAR 03, achieving over ten thousand units in cumulative sales within just two months of its launch. Additionally, Chery Group has several heavyweight products poised for release, including the Chery Fengyun T9, EXEED Star of the Era ET, and Jetour Shanhai T2, all awaiting their debut. With Chery’s entry into the competition, the future of the domestic new energy vehicle market is undoubtedly set to become more vibrant.

Huawei series car brands

In April, HarmonyOS-enabled HiCar delivered 29,632 units.

Huawei series 2024 April sale

While Huawei doesn’t manufacture cars, its HarmonyOS-enabled HiCar has already shown remarkable results in empowering automakers. Additionally, the officially mentioned “repeated monthly sales champion among Chinese new energy brands” statistics also encompass data from both the AITO and Luxeed brands.

In detail, in April, AITO M9 delivered 13,391 units, AITO New M7 delivered 10,896 units, Luxeed S7 delivered 4,546 units, and the remaining were likely AITO M5. Among them, Luxeed S7, after overcoming some difficulties, began to see an increase in deliveries, while the delivery volume of AITO M9, surpassing ten thousand units and even higher than AITO New M7, was surprising. Furthermore, there are the recently launched AITO New M5 and the soon-to-be-launched STELATO S9. Undoubtedly, with the increasingly diverse product offerings of HarmonyOS-enabled HiCar, it has gradually become a force to be reckoned with in the automotive industry.

GAC Aion

GAC Aion sold 28,113 units in April.

GAC Aion 2024 April sale

Compared to the previous trend of monthly sales surpassing 40,000 units and catching up to 50,000 units, GAC Aion’s recent sales figures appear less than ideal. While still maintaining a considerable customer base, the increasingly complex market environment poses challenges even for leading players in the new energy sector. It seems that even the top players in the new energy sector are finding it difficult to remain stable amidst the evolving market conditions, requiring everyone to adapt and innovate.

Li Auto

Li Auto delivered 25,787 vehicles in April.

Li Auto 2024 April sale

Although Li Auto’s recent delivery performance hasn’t been ideal, the official response has been swift. In April, Li Auto not only adjusted prices across its entire product lineup but also introduced the new model Li Auto L6. When the next sales report is released, we believe Li Auto’s delivery performance will show a significant improvement.

ZEEKR

ZEEKR delivered 16,089 vehicles in April.

ZEEKR 2024 April sale

In April, ZEEKR saw a significant increase in delivery volume, reaching a historic high. It seems that Xiaomi’s high-profile entry may have spurred hesitant users to make purchasing decisions after comparing with the Xiaomi SU7. However, it’s the product strength showcased by the all-new ZEEKR 001 that ultimately wins over users.

NIO

NIO delivered 15,620 vehicles in April.

NIO 2024 April sale

Recently, NIO, which has frequently secured cooperation with peer companies in the field of energy supplementation, has shown a steady upward trend in sales. Clearly, even now, NIO, with its battery swap model as a brand moat, remains an irreplaceable part of the market. Furthermore, NIO’s lower-priced sub-brand, ONVO, is also set to meet users soon. With ONVO cars that can achieve higher sales volume, I believe NIO’s overall sales and business performance will be enhanced.

Leapmotor

Leapmotor delivered 15,005 vehicles in April.

In April, Leapmotor’s two SUV models, the Leapmotor C11 and Leapmotor C10, together exceeded ten thousand deliveries. Leapmotor, which once gained recognition with its pure electric mini car, the Leapmotor T03, ultimately succeeded in product upgrades, using higher-priced products to drive the majority of sales and revenue. In addition, Leapmotor also launched a larger vehicle (officially defined as MPSUV), the Leapmotor C16, with progress in overseas markets steadily advancing through cooperation with the Stellantis Group. It is evident that Leapmotor is making significant strides forward.

Changan DEEPAL

DEEPAL delivered 12,744 vehicles in April.

Thanks to the Deepal SL03 and Deepal S7, as well as positive market responses, Deepal Motors has consistently maintained stable delivery performance. Next up, the highly anticipated Deepal G318 is finally nearing its release. New energy hardcore off-roading has been a recent focus in the industry, and with the addition of electric motors, fuel consumption and comfort have both seen significant improvements. With the Deepal G318, I believe Deepal Motors’ delivery volume will reach new heights.

Changan Qiyuan

Changan Qiyuan delivered 11,833 vehicles in April.

Although Changan Qiyuan may not have a large presence on the internet, its actual monthly sales have already surpassed ten thousand. On one hand, this is because entry-level family cars represent the largest segment in terms of scale, and as long as the product is competitive, consumers will naturally vote with their wallets. On the other hand, it’s also because Changan’s channel advantages are quite significant, and offline transactions are also a force to be reckoned with.

SAIC Volkswagen New Energy

SAIC Volkswagen New Energy achieved sales of over ten thousand units in April.

SAIC Volkswagen New Energy 2024 April sale

This sales figure of over ten thousand units likely includes not only the ID. family but also the Passat PHEV and Tiguan L PHEV, two plug-in hybrid models outside of the pure electric lineup. However, with Shanghai no longer providing free use of small car quotas for plug-in hybrid models, overall, the ID. family still contributed the majority of SAIC Volkswagen New Energy’s sales volume. As for why they’re grouped together this time, it’s probably to make the data look more appealing.

Xpeng

Xpeng Motors delivered 9,393 vehicles in April.

Xpeng 2024 April sale

Although the delivery volume of the Xpeng X9 is commendable, with nearly 10,000 units delivered in the first four months after its launch, MPVs, being a relatively niche vehicle type, cannot solely support Xpeng’s overall delivery volume. As the more versatile Xpeng G6 gradually catches up with competitors in terms of technology, how to further increase delivery volume remains a challenge that XPeng needs to address.

Neta

The Neta delivered 9,017 vehicles in April.

Neta 2024 April sale

Neta, once the top seller among domestic new energy vehicles, has gradually found a new rhythm. In the Southeast Asian market, Neta is steadily expanding its presence, while domestically, the new model Neta L was launched in April and has already secured over 15,000 orders. Judging from the monthly delivery figures, Neta has maintained its stance and is gradually adapting to new changes.

SAIC-GM

SAIC-GM delivered a total of 8,762 new energy vehicles across its three brands in April.

SAIC-GM 2024 April sale

SAIC-GM’s delivery of 8,762 vehicles was contributed by the Buick, Cadillac, and Chevrolet brands. Among them, the Buick Velite 6 has consecutively topped the sales charts for eight weeks in the joint venture’s new energy segment, making it likely the best-selling new energy vehicle among the three brands mentioned. Looking ahead, SAIC-GM will introduce three heavyweight new energy models: the plug-in hybrid version of the Buick GL8, the pure electric Cadillac Lyriq, and the plug-in hybrid SUV Chevrolet Explorer Plus. These releases may have the potential to challenge Volkswagen’s position as the leader in joint venture new energy vehicles.

Xiaomi

Xiaomi delivered 7,058 units of the SU7 in April.

Xiaomi 2024 April sale

The Xiaomi SU7, launched on March 28th, began its first deliveries on April 3rd. Therefore, the 7,058 units delivered in April represent a partial month’s data, showcasing its impressive appeal. As Xiaomi’s automotive production capacity and delivery capabilities continue to improve gradually, we anticipate even higher delivery numbers in May.

Avatr

Avatr delivered 5,247 vehicles in April.

Avatr 2024 April sale

In the face of the aggressive Xiaomi SU7, Avatr decisively responded with the 2024 Avatr 12. Not only did the new car undergo upgrades, but its starting price also dropped by 35,000 yuan. After this wave of offense and defense, Avatr firmly held its ground. Subsequent continuous upgrades in intelligent cockpit and driving functions will help Avatr maintain its competitiveness. The upcoming “battle” is expected to be even more exciting.

Voyah

Voyah delivered 4,003 vehicles in April.

Voyah 2024 April sale

Since the beginning of 2024, Voyah’s delivery performance has shown a significant improvement compared to last year, although the growth momentum seems to have slowed down. To address this, Voyah has adopted several strategies. First, it has initiated comprehensive cooperation with Huawei in the fields of intelligent cockpit and autonomous driving. Second, it is preparing to launch a new pure electric SUV tailored for families. Third, it plans to provide more advanced tri-electric technologies such as universal 800V, 5C ultra-fast charging, and 1000kW charging piles. It remains to be seen what surprises will come next.

Top 10 MPV Sales in China for March最先出现在GuangcaiAuto

]]>
With the rise in household demand, MPV models have garnered widespread attention from consumers. Many domestic brands have recognized the development opportunities in the MPV segment and actively introduced MPV models. For example, models such as the Denza D9, Xpeng X9, and GAC Trumpchi M8 have all achieved impressive sales performance in the market. Particularly noteworthy is the Denza D9, which surpassed the Buick GL8 in March sales, securing the top spot in the MPV segment. Now, let’s take a look back at the top ten MPV models in China for March.

NO.1 Denza D9

Sales volume: 10 thousand units

In February, Denza sold 4,016 units, but in March, sales surged to nearly 10,000 units, achieving a 140% sales growth. This significant increase propelled it up two spots in the rankings, surpassing the Buick GL8. The Denza D9 DM-i, as a mid-to-large-sized MPV, has dimensions of 5250mm*1960mm*1920mm and a wheelbase of 3110mm. The interior layout is designed for seven seats, while also offering a more luxurious four-seat version to meet the diverse needs of users.

NO.2 Buick GL8

Sales volume: 7.4 thousand units

The Buick GL8, as a joint venture MPV with a rich history, has maintained stable sales performance in the market. However, in recent years, with the rise of domestic independent brands and intensified market competition, the sales of Buick GL8 have shown some fluctuations. Especially in March, compared to other competing brands, its sales growth was not particularly significant. The dimensions of the Buick GL8 are 5219mm*1878mm*1805mm, with a wheelbase of 3088mm, offering both 6-seat and 7-seat seating layouts to meet the needs of different families and business purposes.

NO.3 Toyota Sienna

Sales volume: 6.7 thousand units

The GAC Toyota Sienna, as a long-standing and popular model among joint venture brands, primarily targets the family car market and continues to demonstrate stable sales performance. Despite not experiencing significant growth in sales in March, leading to a slight decline in its ranking, the Sienna still maintains a solid position in the top three. With dimensions of 5165mm*1995mm*1765mm and a wheelbase of 3060mm, this model falls into the category of mid-to-large-sized MPVs, featuring a 7-seat layout that fully caters to the needs of family travel.

NO.4 Trumpchi M8

In March, the sales performance of the GAC Trumpchi M8 showed a significant growth trend, jumping from 2070 units in February to 6031 units in March, achieving a remarkable 191% sales increase. Consequently, its ranking also rose by three places. The dimensions of this model are 5212mm*1893mm*1823mm, with a wheelbase of 3070mm, positioning it in the mid-to-large-sized MPV segment. The interior layout remains consistent with a 7-seat configuration.

NO.5 Trumpchi M6

Sales volume: 4.7 thousand units

Ranked fifth on the sales chart is the GAC Trumpchi M6, which sold 4684 units in March, showing an improvement compared to February’s sales. Although it slipped one spot in the rankings, the overall fluctuation was not significant. The dimensions of the GAC Trumpchi M6 are 4793mm*1837mm*1730mm, with a wheelbase of 2810mm, placing it in the compact MPV category. The vehicle maintains a 7-seat configuration, catering to everyday household needs.

NO.6 Xpeng X9

Sales volume: 3.9 thousand units

The Xpeng X9, as a recently launched model, has achieved commendable sales performance since its market introduction in January, with sales approaching 4000 units in March. This performance is noteworthy. Additionally, compared to February, the Xpeng X9 has climbed three spots in the rankings. The dimensions of this model are 5293mm*1988mm*1785mm, with a wheelbase of 3160mm.

Xpeng X9

NO.7 Toyota Granvia

Sales volume: 3.8 thousand units

The FAW Toyota‘s Granvia, a sister model to the Sienna, enjoys a good reputation in the market. Although sales increased slightly compared to February, there was a slight decline in rankings, falling back one spot. However, this fluctuation remains within the normal range of market dynamics. The dimensions of this model are 5175mm*1995mm*1785mm, with a wheelbase of 3060mm, and it features a 7-seater configuration.

Summary:

Looking at the performance of this round of rankings, the market share of Chinese brands in the top ten sales of MPV models has gradually increased. Particularly noteworthy is that the monthly sales of the Denza D9 DM-i have surpassed those of the Buick GL8, demonstrating the increasing strength of Chinese car models. However, it’s worth noting that joint venture brands have initiated a new round of price reductions. As we enter April, competition among major models will intensify even further.

What is the sub-brand of Xpeng? https://guangcaiauto.com/what-is-the-sub-brand-of-xpeng/ Sun, 07 Apr 2024 08:46:27 +0000 https://guangcaiauto.com/?p=12726 Xpeng also recently announced the creation of a sub-brand. Spy photos of the sub-brand’s first model have also been exposed, let’s take a look.

What is the sub-brand of Xpeng?最先出现在GuangcaiAuto

]]>
Among the recognized three major players in the Chinese electric vehicle new brand arena, besides Li Auto, which currently maintains strong profitability, good financial condition, and outstanding market performance, both NIO and Xpeng are facing similar challenges. That is, their market performance has yet to break through, and they have been unable to rapidly increase sales, resulting in long-term substantial losses.

And they have all coincidentally turned to the strategy of “downsizing attacks,” by launching sub-brands to boost sales.

The sub-brand

Among them, NIO’s sub-brand is “ONVO,” positioned in the 200,000 to 300,000 RMB range. Xpeng, on the other hand, is more aggressive, promoting its new sub-brand that will enter the 100,000 to 150,000 RMB level of the automotive market by integrating Didi Global Inc.’s car-making technology. Given the collaboration with Didi and this price range, one can’t help but wonder, what is Xpeng up to? Are they preparing to compete in the ride-hailing market against GAC AION, BAIC, and BYD? Today, let’s discuss Xpeng’s strategy and its intended goals, and what effects it may have.

Xpeng new brand MONA

MONA

Let’s first take a look at the basic information of Xpeng’s new sub-brand. Xpeng’s sub-brand, currently codenamed “MONA,” is positioned in the price range of 100,000 to 150,000 RMB, aiming to create AI-driven cars targeted at young people. The first model is expected to be launched in the third quarter of this year. Leveraging Didi’s car-making technology base and Xpeng’s self-developed assisted driving and intelligent cockpit technology, the vehicles will be manufactured in Xpeng’s factory. MONA will also adopt an independent brand identity and establish new sales channels.

The first model of MONA

Currently, spy photos of the first model of MONA have been exposed. The new car is positioned as a compact pure electric sedan, adopting the popular minimalist design language. The most prominent feature of the front end is the T-shaped LED headlights, exuding a strong sense of technology. The overall design features a three-box body shape with a floating roof and hidden door handles. According to official teaser images, the C-pillar adopts a segmented visual design. As for the taillights, they seem to echo the styling of the headlights.

In addition, it can be observed that there is no provision for millimeter-wave radar in the front end, and the camera window at the top of the windshield is relatively wide. From this, it can be roughly inferred that MONA will focus on using vision-based L2-level driver assistance systems to reduce hardware costs.

In terms of interior design, MONA showcases its unique charm as an intelligent mobility product. The cabin adopts the mainstream T-shaped design, paired with a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel and a large central control screen. Currently, information regarding the powertrain remains undisclosed. In terms of the chassis, it will utilize a front MacPherson and rear torsion beam structure. It is reported that the expected price of this new car will be around 150,000 RMB.

Why did Xpeng create an independent low-end sub-brand?

Price

From the currently available public information, MONA’s positioning actually overlaps with the entry-level price range of Xpeng’s current models, the P5 and G3. If MONA enters the market at this price point, it will create internal competition. Therefore, there is some reason to believe that in the future, the P5 and G3 models may face discontinuation, allowing the Xpeng brand to focus on the mid-to-high-end market above 200,000 RMB, making way for the sub-brand MONA. So, why does Xpeng want to create an independent sub-brand?

Xpeng P5 2024 appearance-1
Xpeng P5

Firstly, Xpeng currently has a very urgent need to boost sales. According to data, Xpeng sold 141,601 vehicles in 2023, falling short not only of the targeted 376,000 units but also behind NIO’s 160,000 units and Leapmotor’s 144,000 units. Therefore, rapidly increasing sales to reduce manufacturing costs is currently Xpeng’s most important challenge.

More importantly, Xpeng is a brand focused on intelligence, and the continuous improvement of AI-supported smart driving and intelligent cockpit features relies on a significant amount of vehicle data feedback for iteration. This helps spread out research and development costs, improve feature experiences, and enhance software monetization capabilities. Therefore, ramping up production volume is crucial for Xpeng in multiple ways.

Xpeng car intelligent driving diagram

Currently, Xpeng’s product lineup has been largely established in the 200,000 to 300,000 RMB price range, with models like the P7i sedan and the G6/G9 SUV serving as sales leaders. In such a scenario, reducing prices or introducing cheaper models would indeed be the best choice. However, directly lowering prices might potentially damage Xpeng’s existing brand image. Therefore, introducing an independent sub-brand to differentiate it from the parent brand is a good choice to maintain Xpeng’s consumer-oriented DNA.

Appearance

Additionally, according to some internal sources, the MONA project actually originated from a previously abandoned car-making project at Didi. The complete vehicle technology from this project has been sold to Xpeng, which originally came from Didi’s team. This budget-friendly model might not align with Xpeng’s existing design style, hence establishing it as an independent sub-brand ensures both consistency in the family’s characteristics and reduces the cost of modification and adaptation.

Is Xpeng suitable to create an independent sub-brand?

However, in our view, turning MONA into a sub-brand directly may not necessarily be a good approach.

Firstly, Xpeng’s label of intelligence alone cannot fully support the premium brand image it desires. The current market performance of all Xpeng models is a good illustration of this. The early emphasis on advanced intelligent driving with the P5 model did not manage to elevate its brand image or achieve a breakthrough in sales.

Xpeng P7 Exterior

On the contrary, with the continuous iteration of intelligent technology, costs will inevitably decrease. From this perspective, the parent brand of Xpeng may even evolve towards affordability. Introducing a sub-brand could result in self-cannibalization between the two brands in the price range below 200,000 RMB. Moreover, establishing a new independent brand will incur significant channel construction costs and additional investments in the initial stage.

Xpeng logo

More importantly, in the price range of 100,000 to 200,000 RMB, traditional domestic automakers like BYD and Geely already have a significant lead in product lines and market share. Without a competitive advantage beyond intelligent driving, MONA may struggle to survive amidst fierce competition.

In summary, Xpeng’s introduction of MONA has its rationale, but it also carries certain risks.

]]>
Come April 2024, many car brands have already announced their March sales. Let’s take a look at China’s electric car sales rankings in March 2024.

China’s electric car sales ranking in March 2024

1. BYD sold 302,459 cars in March

BYD sales in March

In March, BYD sold a total of 302,000 cars, including 287,000 Wangchao/Ocean Network cars, 10,000 Denza cars, 1,090 Yangwang cars, and 3,550 Fangchengbao cars. While many competitors saw declines in sales, BYD’s sales remained strong, maintaining a significant lead. It has to be said that the Honor Edition launched at the beginning of the year has been extremely successful. However, the fact that the combined sales of Yangwang and Fangchengbao are less than 10,000 shows that BYD still needs time to establish itself as a high-end brand.

2. Wuling sold 39,520 cars in March (estimated)

Wuling sales in March

In March, Wuling Motors sold a total of 42,956 cars, with electric cars accounting for 92%. Estimated electric car sales are 39,520 units. Among them, Wuling Rongguang sold 11,190 units, the Baojun sold 12,694 units, and the Hongguang MINI EV sold 16,046 units. Except for the Hongguang MINI EV and the Baojun, Wuling Rongguang also surpassed the ten-thousand mark in sales. It has to be said that Wuling is truly a mass-market manufacturing machine. As long as the price is low enough, Wuling is the people’s choice.

3. GAC Aion sold 32,530 cars in March

GAC Aion sales in March

Compared to the continuous monthly sales of 45,000 cars in the second half of last year, the recent decline in sales of GAC Aion is quite noticeable. The incremental growth in the ride-hailing market is slightly insufficient, and Hyper, which mainly targets C-end consumers, has not successfully increased its sales volume. These are all the problems that GAC Aion has to face in the recent period.

In addition, with the hot sale of Xiaomi SU7, the competitive pressure on Hyper GT is very high. Hyper’s response has been swift, decisively launching limited-time discounts. Counterattack is necessary, and it remains to be seen how the market will respond!

4. AITO delivered 31,727 cars in March

AITO car delivery status in March

This time, AITO became the first brand to announce sales figures on April Fool’s Day! Despite most of its competitors failing to meet sales expectations, AITO continues to maintain considerable popularity. With a delivery volume of 31,700 units, AITO has once again surpassed Li Auto. To put it plainly, it’s still a matter of pricing. Both are extended-range SUVs, and the AITO M7 does offer excellent value for money. Now, it remains to be seen how Li Auto will respond.

5. Li Auto delivered 28,984 cars in March

Li Auto delivery situation in March

The delivery volume of 28,900 units is honestly not bad. However, what’s frustrating is that Li Auto has been consistently overshadowed by AITO recently. Every time Li Auto announces its weekly delivery figures, it indirectly advertises for AITO. In Li Xiang’s recent apology letter, he also acknowledged the marketing chaos during the launch of the Mega. Regardless, let’s hope that Li Auto can regain its momentum soon!

6. Leapmotor delivered 14,567 cars in March

Leapmotor delivery status in March

Among the new forces in the 2014 cohort, aside from Li Auto, Leapmotor has performed the best. The C10 released by Leapmotor some time ago is gradually showing its power. With an 8,295 seat-cabin chip and an integrated central electronic electrical architecture, coupled with a relatively affordable price, the C10 can be said to have almost no shortcomings except for the lack of an 800V charging function. Its good sales are quite normal given its excellent value for money.

7. Changan DEEPAL delivered 13,048 cars in March

Changan DEEPAL delivery status in March

DEEPAL is a sub-brand of Changan Automobile, and DEEPAL’s performance last month was quite impressive, with cost-effectiveness being its outstanding competitive advantage. With the launch of the DEEPAL G318, a new category of extended-range off-road vehicles has been created. With the subsequent delivery of the G318, DEEPAL’s sales will have even more growth potential.

8. ZEEKR delivered 13,012 cars in March

ZEEKR delivery status in March

The delivery volume of 13,000 units is actually lower than expected. After all, last year’s ZEEKR 007 with 800V was launched, and now the ZEEKR 001 is also equipped with 800V across the board, demonstrating considerable product strength. As for why ZEEKR’s sales haven’t taken off, it’s probably largely related to the Xiaomi SU7. Many people have been waiting for the SU7 to be released and are mostly in a wait-and-see mode. Now that the SU7 mystery has been revealed, ZEEKR dealership orders have also started to increase. It is estimated that for a long time to come, ZEEKR and Xiaomi will be true competitors.

9. Geely Geometry/Geely Galaxy sold 12,882/10,185 cars in March

Geely Geometry & Geely Galaxy sales in March

Geely‘s electric car sub-brands, whether it’s Geometry or Galaxy, have both achieved sales exceeding ten thousand units. Geometry mainly targets the B-end market, with relatively stable order sources, while Galaxy, as Geely’s main C-end passenger car brand, offers quite good value for money. Especially the recently launched Galaxy E8, with its C-class pure electric, 800V architecture, and a price of only 175,900 RMB, it can be considered a strong competitor to Xiaomi SU7. It has to be said that having multiple sub-brands is good for fighting. It proves very useful when besieging individual competitors.

10. NIO delivered 11,866 cars in March

NIO delivery status in March

With nearly 12,000 deliveries, it’s better than February. However, to completely break free from the “NIO monthly sales only 10,000” curse, NIO clearly finds it challenging with its existing product lineup alone. That’s why NIO must grit its teeth and roll out the latest Bass policy, offering more discounts to car owners, while also launching the “ONVO” sub-brand. However, ONVO is positioned around 200,000 RMB, coincidentally clashing with Xiaomi SU7. Moreover, Li Bin admitted in a selfie video with Lei Jun that SU7 is too competitive, causing significant pricing difficulties for ONVO. Whether ONVO can rejuvenate NIO depends on Li Bin’s courage in the future.

11. Xpeng delivered 9,026 cars in March

Xpeng delivery status in March

Despite the cheerful appearance of He Xiaopeng attending the Xiaomi SU7 launch event, the truth is that the launch of Xiaomi SU7 poses a significant challenge for Xpeng. The product positioning and pricing overlap considerably. However, Xpeng still has the potential to strike back. Its advanced autonomous driving technology remains the most advanced in the industry. Moreover, with the mid-term upgrade of the Xpeng P7 lineup to full 800V, Xiaopeng has the capability to compete head-to-head with SU7. Xpeng must act swiftly; time is of the essence!

12. Neta delivered 8,317 cars in March

Neta delivery status in March

Recently, there have been continuous rumors circulating online about Neta ceasing production, indicating possible operational difficulties. Whether it was Zhang Yong’s live broadcast with Zhou Hongyi a few days ago or the recent announcement of delivery volume, it has been proven that Neta is still alive. The fact that the video of Zhou Hongyi criticizing Zhang Yong could be released also indicates that Neta sincerely hopes for change. Let’s hope that perseverance pays off.

13. Voyah delivered 6,122 cars in March

Voyah delivery status in March

Voyah, which used to be the first to announce delivery volumes, waited until the end of the month to release them this time. With sales of 6,122 units, it’s still a decent performance compared to previous results. However, for Voyah to further increase sales, it needs to advance 800V technology in its high-end vehicle series and introduce more entry-level models.

14. GWM Ora/WEY brand sold 6022/3608 cars in March

Great Wall Motor Co., Ltd. Production and Sales Report for March 2024

According to the production and sales bulletin released by Great Wall Motors, the group sold a total of 100,000 vehicles in March, which is a decent performance overall. However, when it comes to pure new energy vehicle brands, GWM Ora sold 6,022 units, while WEY sold 3,608 units, which appears to be somewhat dismal. This indicates that Great Wall Motors is more inclined towards choosing traditional fuel-powered vehicle products. Now, Wei Jianjun has already had the Xiaomi SU7 MAX that Lei Jun gave him delivered to the headquarters for careful analysis. It remains to be seen whether this will provide any inspiration to Great Wall Motors.

15. Avatr delivered 5,016 cars in March

Avatr delivery status in March

As a brand priced at over 300,000 RMB, Avatr‘s performance with 5,016 units is not too bad. However, with the entry of the Xiaomi SU7 into the battlefield, especially the MAX version, it will pose a considerable challenge to Avatr 12. With the 2024 model of the Avatr 12, a more competitive price has been promptly offered in response. It’s no wonder that some netizens in the comments section have expressed, “Thanks to Xiaomi, my Avatr 12 has dropped by 20,000 RMB.”
